On Rest, Editorial Text

For the majority of the time we spent editing this issue, rest began to emerge as a central consideration throughout a number of the contributions, until eventually it seemed the natural theme or title for the first issue. At a personal level, I began to feel the need for rest last year. At the time, I could not name why, though I suspect that at a core level I had begun to feel the collective toll of years of living in a world and in a manner that required me to be absent from myself. Choosing to place this emphasis on resting, revealed to me my own great need for rest, and the importance of creating a space where such rest is possible. Being back home in Windhoek has required me to clarify that impulse, and be more explicit and intentional in naming what rest means to me.
